not improved. Clearly, in the eyes of many, the war on drugs is futile and must change somehow. The following paper examines the war on drugs and looks at possible
solutions to the problem. War on Drugs: Possible Solutions One author notes, "The war on drugs has cost billions of taxpayer dollars, clogged our courts and filled our
prisons. And yet, in recent years, the demand for drugs has held discouragingly steady, down from the 1970s and 80s when casual drugging was more acceptable, but also down to
the hard-core, serious customers" (Detroit Free Press, 1999). Humanity has always sought drugs, and always will, and many argue that, like Prohibition, the nation cannot stop a people from doing
what they desire to do. These are the primary arguments against the war on drugs in the United States, and the arguments that point to the futility of the war
and are further illustrated in the following by another author or critic: "Despite decades of failed recreational drug policies, there are plenty of well meaning yet ignorant pundits and bureaucrats
willing to step up the hate and intolerance the misguided drug war has brought our society" (Civil Liberties, 2005). In direct relationship to the war on drugs is apparently
the displacement and abuse of the impoverished in the world. Turnipseed (2000) notes that in order to help many of the people in foreign countries that are directly affected by
the United States war on drugs the nation should "States should eliminate racial profiling; repeal mandatory sentencing laws for drug offenders" among other things. In essence, too much information points
