Introduction Walter Benjamin and Herbert Marcuse were individuals from the 20th century who did a great deal of explication in the field of art, and the study of the importance
of art in the world, in cultures, and society. In the case of Herbert Marcuse he worked with ideas concerning what he termed the affirmative culture. In the case Walter
Benjamin of he examined the reality of replication in art in the modern world. The following paper examines the two men individually and then compares the concepts and ideas of
them together. Walter Benjamin In history there has always been some attempt at replication in one way or another. But, at
the same time art was considered something that was very unique, seen in one-of-a-kind works that were only viewed by the public at large or by wealthy individuals. Having a
piece of art in ones house was not a reality for much of human existence and when it did become a reality they were the actual art pieces, not reproductions,
which people possessed. It was not really until the 20th century that people began to become immersed in a very powerful way in the field of reproduction and then anyone
