family are the primary theme, as is also the case with Lorraine Hansberrys play "A Raisin in the Sun." The following paper examines how the two are founded on the
theme of home and family. Walker and Hansberry: Home and Family In Walkers story there is a mother and a grown daughter sitting and waiting for the arrival
of the other daughter/sister. The mother and daughter are incredibly similar, finding joy and happiness in the simplest of lifestyles. They know one another perhaps better than anyone else, and
they essentially serve as pillars for the growth and existence of one another. In this story the theme revolves around the sister/daughter who is coming to visit, a young woman
without any sense of family or home. She sees her African American heritage as something to tout as power in society, not as something that is an intergral part of
who she is. She does not see the articles in the house as having powerful meaning in relationship to past generations and future generations. She sees them only as symbols
she can show off to society. In Hansberrys play the story involves a family who is awaiting an inheritance. They all have their ideas about what the money should
be used for, even though it is rightfully the mothers money and thus her choice. The son wants to use the money to start a business and the daughter wants
to go to college and become a doctor. The mother, however, wants to lay an even stronger foundation for future generations by purchasing them a home where they can all
