2009 Author: FarmingUK. Summary of the Article: Most people are very well aware of the fact that Wal-Mart promises low prices. They do this, along
with other things, in order to lure customers and ensure that they keep a strong customer base. Even many people who dislike shopping at Wal-Mart do so anyways because that
is either their only option or they offer the best prices, which is very important in a tight economy. With these realities in mind the following paper offers a reaction
to an article titled Mexico-Wal-Mart very popular for low prices and written by FarmingUK in 2009. Mexico-Wal-Mart very popular for low prices by FarmingUK (2009) is clearly an
article that comes out of the UK and an article that talks about Wal-Mart in Mexico. The article is relatively brief and begins by noting that, "Retailer Wal-Mart de Mexico
SAB reported modest net profit growth in the fourth quarter as higher operating expenses pressured margins" (FarmingUK, 2009). The stores in Mexico, however, are called Walmex (FarmingUK, 2009). The article
notes that they had a profit of 4.92 billion pesos as opposed to the 4.72 billion pesos from the year before (FarmingUK, 2009).
The article discusses a little more regarding the profit numbers, and then illustrates that the year of 2008 was a year where consumer confidence was reduced and there
was a "a drop in disposable income" (FarmingUK, 2009). Wal-Mart, or Walmex, lowered their prices in order to attract the customers and keep the customers they had (FarmingUK, 2009). Their
