100 percent renewable energy, to create zero waste, and to sell products that sustain resources and the environment" (Creno, 2008). These are lofty goals for any company but for the
largest retailer in the world, they are not just lofty, they are huge and complex. Wal-Mart is taking a gamble that a corporation can be green and profitable at
the same time. Wal-Marts senior director of corporate strategy and sustainability commented that the company realized that they are so large and have so much leverage in the market
that they could make a difference (Creno, 2008). He also said that engaging in sustainability projects would increase revenue (Creno, 2008). The reason is simple, more and more consumers are

leaders, suppliers, active environmental groups, academics, non-governmental agencies and even government agencies (Wal-Mart, Sustainability, 2008). These groups focus on innovative ideas to use energy more efficiently and product packaging, among
other things (Wal-Mart, Sustainability, 2008). One initiative has been to reduce the fuel their trucks use in order to reduce carbon emissions while using renewable energy sources (Wal-Mart, Sustainability, 2008).
