systems and processes but they cant. One reason for that outcome is the sheer size of Wal-Mart and that gives it power and leverage no other organization can achieve. Troy
(2003) said: "The heart of Wal-Marts efforts to gain market share across a broad range of categories continues to be its attitude toward supply chain management" (p. 109). The company
has 152 huge distribution centers across the world, 109 are in the U.S., and it has its own fleet of trucks (Troy, 2003). This gives them control over inbound and
outbound logistics. The company was involved in a program they called reoptimization when Troy wrote his article in 2003. Basically, that means that by opening more distribution centers, each
truck would have to drive fewer miles and that would, in turn, stores did not have to order inventory so far in advance (Troy, 2003). It also helped suppliers insofar
as many would not have to ship their goods as far (Troy, 2003). In 2006, Wal-Mart introduced a remix strategy, which focuses on vendors (DSC, 2007). This initiative changed vendor
shipping and it was called a "colossal" change (DSC, 2007). As the author of this article said, this remix of vendor shipping programs could only be accomplished by a corporation
as large as Wal-Mart. Thousands of vendors ship billions of cases of food and other merchandise to nearly 4,000 Wal-Mart stores in the United States each year (DSC, 2007). One
