The fact that Wal-Marts annual sales is about half of all of Australia GDP and that this company alone generates two percent of Americas GDP illustrates the companys need for an excellent knowledge management system (W. P. Carey School of Business, 2006). Wal-Marts growth rate is not going to stop any time in the near future and as they continue to grow domestically and globally, the company will collect more and more information. This school wrote that Wal-Mart is "already legendary for supply-chain genius [and now] must refine processes even further if it is to continue to grow at its current clip" (W. P. Carey School of Business, 2006). That includes gaining even more control than it already has over its supply chain and Mark Barratt who works at this school said that the company needs to improve "product availability and promotional execution" (W. P. Carey School of Business, 2006). It isnt that Wal-Mart does not already have effective and efficient processes in place for these aspects of their business. Besides being genius with supply chain management, Wal-Mart is able to get the right products to the right places so that they are available to consumers at the right time (W. P. Carey School of Business, 2006). This is no easy accomplishment. Wal-Mart is reputed to have the best information system in the retail industry.
