be important enough to put before Congress, being that the subject is a health concern, and obviously an important problem in regards to the report, it is a very important
topic, or at least as important as the topic of obesity in the United States. National health is realistically the concern, or should be the concern, of all citizens of
the United States and as such the report needs to be examined and understood. The following paper offers a reaction to the report. Wake Up America: A National
Sleep Alert In this report the authors first indicate that 40 million people in the United States suffer from one kind of sleep problem or another. While this may not
seem like a serious concern, the report points out how problems with sleep affect many areas of society. "reduced productivity, lowered cognitive performance, increased likelihood of accidents, higher morbidity and
mortality risks, and decreased quality of life" (Report of the National Commission on Sleep Disorders Research, 1992). When people stop and think about their behavior and their productivity when
they are tired, or not getting enough sleep, they can quickly understand how a large number of people in the nation could make a big difference in how the country
is run and how daily life can be affected, or how everyone can ultimately feel the affects. When people are tired they do not do their jobs well enough. It
does not matter if they are driving, or working on accounts, or cooking or mowing the lawn. Danger is present when people are tired and not alert. This
