is also an offer that stirred much controversy. When the president of Senegal offered help to Haiti, people wondered why he did such a thing. Senegal is a nation whose
people live in less than desirable conditions. It seems then that there might have been ulterior motives when President Wade offered sanctuary to those in need. On the surface, it
seems to be a generous offer. Yet, one has to look at the character of the man making that offer. Wade had recently ordered a huge monument that costs millions
of dollars. He also offered Haiti one million dollars. Many residents are not happy that money is being spent in this manner when the nation is struggling. Some people of
Senegal cannot afford to even purchase food, let alone help others. It is therefore unconscionable that President Wade has made such generous offers at the expense of his own people.
In examining this issue, it seems that the president is less than genuine. It does appear, after weighing all of the evidence that President Wade is posturing for his own
gain. First, it is important to examine the plight of the Haitians and the offer that was made. The Offer It was in January of
2010 that an earthquake struck Haiti, an event that killed close to 200 thousand residents ("Haitians on way to Senegal following President Wades host offer," 2010). After the disaster, many
generous offers would be made. People banded together to send the third world nation money and supplies. It was something that people perhaps did not consider before. While people did
raise money for Haiti in the past, it is only in the months after the incident that the plight of the people became visible. In other words, Haiti was always
