Or was she simply making a candid remark about the leisure time of the middle class? When taken in a sum total, however, one tends to lean toward the feminist
theories, especially when Virginia Woolfs own proclivities and personality are figured into the analysis. The remarkable life and times of Virginia Woolf did, indeed, give her the income and ability
to have a room of her own, amid a time when women were lucky to have any room at all. Many of Woolfs themes center around the battle of the
sexes and the necessity of a woman to have her own space, both intellectually and financially. What Virginia brought to the publishing world was a womans voice. And that voice,
quite often, cried foul. Before this, women had struggled in underground press groups, managing to print out a very limited amount of their manuscripts. However, with the backing of
her publishing family, it was assured that Virginias works would see the light of day. The problem remained that no previously used techniques seemed to purvey the womans experiences in
the way Virginia thought that they should. Most of the literature were primarily from a mans point of view of the world. To counter this, Woolf abandoned most of the
"linear narrative and instead went to an interior monologue, or stream of consciousness, technique"(Virginia Woolf, 2003). Woolfs writings deeply reflect her life. The themes she chooses to pursue echo loudly
in such works as Three Guineas and A Room of Ones Own. In a Room of Ones Own Virginia speaks about the obstacles to women writers and the prejudices which
