the world has at one time, and may still, have considered women to be inferior. Some countries, depending on where the dart landed would even have such skeletons in their
historical closet which speak of women as animals, without souls, undeserving of life. Thankfully, most of that history is past history, and yet, in many areas of the world women
are still struggling for equality. While Europe has made great strides in womens rights, it has to be stated that there is still more work to be done, and as
regards other countries, for example Afghanistan, the work has just begun. Women in the Victorian Era in Europe did not have any rights. They were not allowed to vote,
own property, or walk alone unattended in public. Many who look at other cultures around the world and consider the North American Continent so advanced would do well to only
look in the not so distant past only to see many of the same travesties that occurred to women in its own history. Readers in search of early stirrings of
feminism will find them in the passionate outbursts of both Wollenstonecraft and Lanyer. During this era women were not allowed to vote, own property and had no rights to their
own children. For example, if a woman were abused by her husband, the Catholic church wouldnt help her (since they held that women had no souls) and the court systems,
highly influenced by the Church, turned a blind eye to the practice. If a womans father left her a sizeable inheritance, it
was given to the husband as the woman was not allowed to have a bank account or to own land(Alfonso 1997). In short, what Wollstonecraft and Lanyer were both pointing
