President. The operative term here, however, was "little boy." Little girls didnt grow up to be president - they grew up to be First Ladies (if they were lucky enough
to marry prominent political figures). The idea of women actually running for office was so ludicrous, that no woman truly took it seriously.
These days, although there is as yet no woman president, women do hold public office. There are women judges, representatives and senators, both on the local, state and federal level.
When it come to "parity," however, it is, indeed, still a mans world. Men are more prominent in public office even though great strides have been made among women politicians.
This paper will examine some of the issues of parity - namely why women have not achieved the equality of politics that men
have (although more than half the nation is women, only a small percentage of elected officials are women). Part of the reason for this is because women, overall, still arent
considered viable candidates for office - this, despite the many contributions that women politicians have made to the well-being of this country. Another reason is that women simply arent portrayed
as solid political material. As a result, there are handfuls of women politicians on the national level, perhaps a few more women in public office on the state and local
level - and as yet, there has been no woman elected to president of the United States. Finances and Appearances According to Barbara
