But this is only part of the overall medical picture. What we described here is known as western medicine, or conventional medicine. But there is a medicine
practiced that is much older than so-called conventional medicine, called eastern medicine, or sometimes Chinese, or oriental medicine. In many ways, because of its age, effectiveness and method, eastern medicine
can be more effective when it comes to providing cures than its more modern, and much younger, western counterpart. Before we delve
into this discussion further, it would probably be a good idea to define, further, what eastern and western medicine are. Western
medicine, or conventional medicine, as its often called, is practiced by those who hold an MD (medical doctor) or DO (doctor of osteopathy) degrees (Definition of Conventional Medicine, 2009). Conventional
medicine is also practiced by allied health professionals such as physical therapists, nurses and psychologists (Definition of Conventional Medicine, 2009). Furthermore,
western medicine treats symptoms and diseases through drugs, radiation or surgery (Western Medicine, 2009). Eastern medicine encompasses those who rely on
non-invasive, non-drug techniques for therapies. These can include, but arent limited to, naturopaths, chiropractors and acupuncturists. Instead of prescribing pills for what ails or x rays to determine if there
