stops to consider it, success does not happen overnight, no matter how it may look to those not directly involved. Given this, then, what makes a person successful? What makes
these people high achievers in areas where so many others have failed? A successful person, from what can be determined, is a multifaceted person who has that winning combination of
intelligence, charisma, foresight, and the ability to take calculated risks. One may pick any well known figure from history, apply these yardsticks and find that they are all exhibited in
the successful person. For example, Gandhi was a highly intelligent man. He was well traveled and studied abroad in many of the highest schools in the world. He brought that
education back to fight for his people, a cause he truly believed in. Using his love for the people, he exhibited a charisma that most of the worlds leaders found
hard to resist. Yet, if Gandhi had stopped there, he may not have been as successful as he was. Instead, it took foresight, a long hard look down the
road of the future, to see what the outcome would be if he did not embrace this cause, if Indias people did not begin to resist the way in which
they were being treated. His foresight saw an India that was living free from the oppression of a colonizing influence. He saw an India that would be allowed to determine
the course of its own destiny. His use of patience is the stuff from which legends are made. He knew that his use of non-violent protest would not be won
overnight, nor would it influence anyone to change their mind immediately. However, like water against stone, the continued passive protest began to tell on the already overtaxed forces of the
