Is a persons nature determined by birth or is the innate personality, that way of interacting and reacting to the environmental changes and shifts, brought about and shaped by an
individuals exposure to his or her surroundings? Many have argued that personality is determined by nature. In other words, an individual is a product of his ancestry. However, a
school of thought that seems to present a better argument is that of nurture, or the idea that, though a person may be influenced by genetic tendencies, the decision to
be who this individual will be still lies in his or her ability to make a rational choice about his or her actions. This particular view has been proven with
both animal studies and in sociological studies in relation to both ethnic and gender playing some variant roles. One case in point is in the area of health. Cancer is
a biological nightmare to its victims. Unfortunately, until a cure is found, it will continue to wreak havoc as an environmental and physical fact for those who suffer from its
effects. However, new studies have shown, that while it may not be a cure for cancer, a person who is nurtured, and their personality kept in a positive light, can
extend their lives, and in some cases may even, in conjunction with available medicines, send the cancer into remission. Doctors call this the nurture factor and swear that it is
the one ingredient for success that they hope for in a patient. Many studies have demonstrated that group therapy for cancer patients may also help to boost this nutritive factor.
