CA region consists of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan (Environment, Water and Security in Central Asia, 2003). Afghanistan
and Iran are in the south, China is in the east and Russia in the west and in the north (Environment, Water and Security in Central Asia, 2003). The region
is situated in the heart of the Eurasian continent and has a total area of 3882 thousand square kilometers (Environment, Water and Security in Central Asia, 2003). The population is
above 53 million people (Environment, Water and Security in Central Asia, 2003). Because farming and livestock are the mainstays of the economy in this region, dependence on water and land
