Drinking fountains, though theyre "fountains" are actually considered plumbing fixtures (Frankel, 2007). The reason? They have a direct connection to plumbing systems, including potable water (i.e., clean, drinking water)
and drainage systems (Frankel, 2007). But water doesnt necessarily come straight from the potable pipes. In some cases, water can be supplied from a remote, chilled water unit thats part
of the fountains make-up (Frankel, 2007). In other cases, water might come directly from a city or towns potable cold-water system (Frankel, 2007). Whats interesting to note here is that
there are even some rules when it comes to refrigeration or cooling of water - tests have demonstrated that water colder than 50 degrees Fahrenheit is considered too cold for
most people to tolerate (Frankel, 2007). Therefore, a slightly higher temperature of the discharged water needs to be placed (Frankel, 2007).
Regardless of how it gets there, water is then dispensed under pressure through a bubbler or drinking spout (hence the term "bubbler" that is used to describe drinking fountains in
