Many feel that if any group is deserving of discrimination, it is indeed the WASPS. Yet ironically, much can be said regarding their comparative relevance and ideology when examined next
to an equally-controversial individual and his own school of thought: Malcolm X. The term WASP was originally derived from the description "white Anglo-Saxon Protestant." According to the Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary,
the current definition is "a member of the dominant and the most privileged class of people in the U.S." Even in the dictionary, it is noted that the term
WASP is "sometimes used disparagingly"(1333). When examining the traditional WASP prejudice towards the ideology of Malcolm X, some of their rationale -- however misargued-- is understandable. WASPS
are generally deemed ignorant towards some of the problems of lower-class America; particularly of the socio-political strains endured by African-Americans. The Nation of Islam represents a movement to augment the
power of oppressed peoples while targeting those in power competitively. As WASPS are those "people in power," they are likely to do whatever is necessary to defend such power &
pride. Malcolm X and his followers are therefore viewed by WASPS as the enemy-- and for that, they are hated and loathed. In return, Nation of Islam adherents feel hostile
towards WASPS as they are the ones who are perceived to hold "the power." II. The Black/White Difference: An Ever-Widening Chasm The more that is written and talked about
concerning black/white relations, the more hopeless the future seems. Now, in addition to blacks being discriminated against, many WASPS feel that a reverse discrimination is taking over because leaders
like Malcolm X have managed to make such headway. For these people, the gripe is that because they were born white, and therefore, advantaged, they are actually less fortunate
