the articles share one thing in common -- they deal with some form of money and banking. Before beginning, its interesting to
note that three out of the five articles deal with international banking (two of them dealing with China). This is proving, more and more, how were entering into a standardized
monetary system worldwide, and how economies continue to be linked more on a global basis. Chinas Central Bank and the "Big Move"
In the March 16, 2005 edition, J.R. Wu authored the article "Shanghai stands to gain clout; Chinas Central Bank mulls moving activities to financial hub."
The main thrust behind this article is two-fold: First, the attempt of the Chinese to continue pushing Shanghai toward being a world financial center (once again), and
second, the idea that the Central Bank of China, in an effort to cash in on the "world financial status" is planning to move divisions and bureaus from the current
Central Bank headquarters in Beijing to Shanghai. Shanghai, according to the author, seems to be fast gaining status of a strong financial
center for a variety of reasons -- first, the nations stock market is located there. Second, so are exchanges when it comes to trading gold, copper, aluminum and other commodities.
Finally, interbank funding and foreign-exchange trading, as well as some foreign banks, are also based in Shanghai. Even while rumors fly about
