consumer. Wal-Mart has several different product types - its regular stores which focus on health and beauty, clothing and other non-perishables; SuperCenters which sell all of the above plus food;
and the Neighborhood Markets, which are food-only. Wal-Mart is more than simply a retail seller, however. Its become an icon of American
business and retailing - love the company or hate it, people understand that this company has changed the way people buy goods and food. Its also changed the way in
which suppliers do business. Wal-Marts reputation is for low prices. Wal-Mart has also had a reputation for insisting on efficiencies in
its supply chain, even sometimes at the cost of the suppliers (Zellner et al, 2003). With wringing out billions of dollars in cost efficiencies out of the retail supply chain,
the savings are passed along to customers in the form of lower prices (Zellner et al, 2003). But this means that the changes suppliers must make to fit the Wal-Mart
ideal can sometimes be harsh and can range from packaging size to even the product itself. Still, many suppliers dont complain about it much (or if they do, its not
to Wal-Mart). Wal-Mart, for many suppliers, is their number-one customer. Wal-Mart Suppliers Who are these companies that supply the shelves of
these stores? Suppliers to Wal-Mart are consumer good companies that offer everything from shampoo, to toothpaste, to dog biscuits. Food companies also supply Wal-Marts Super Centers.
