recently announced it would invest nearly $1 billion in its new plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Christoph St?rmer, an analyst at the German company Global Insight, says the move will
"help VW better understand American drivers" (Ewing, 2008). St?rmer believes that VW has not done well in America at least in part "because its just too European" (Ewing, 2008).
A look at Fords UK website leads one to wonder whether Fords new FordKa may just be "too American" for European tastes, particularly for those other than the British.
The British are forgiving and understand American quirks; much of the rest of Europe is neither forgiving nor understanding and may well be so put off by the American-style
"hurry" mentality of car sales that ignoring Ford may prove to be the preferred response to Fords efforts. Ford It is clear that
Ford has learned some lessons along the way, however. Years ago before it quit making the Taurus, Ford committed a gross marketing gaff when it determined to beat the
Japanese at their own game. At the height of Taurus popularity in the US, Ford decided it would make a number of them right-hand drive and sell the model
in Japan. Only when it became clear that the Taurus simply would not sell in Japan did Ford learn the reason. The Taurus would not fit into a
single parking space in the country... The FordKa that Ford is offering in the UK is a tiny compact that appears to be
