industry sets trends for each and every season. They decide what will be in or out--not Madonna or Britney Spears. Most often it is someone behind the scenes who eventually
becomes as well known as the stars he clothes. The fashion magazine is a large part of the fashion industry in its own right, and a part of the contemporary
media industries that so influences America and the world. Some firms, such as Conde Nast controls many magazines, within the industry segment. II. The Fashion Industry in
Print Fashion makes its way to the pages of most any magazine today as manufacturers gear advertisements to certain segments of the population. For example, automobile magazines which are geared
to men may have advertisements that cater to the male, with a particular demographic in mind. The slant of the magazine and its actual audience would be the target for
a particular advertisement that appears in the book. But while all print media contains fashion to an extent, fashion magazines cater to it. Fashion magazines too target distinct tastes (Englis
& Solomon, 1994). For example, Vogue fosters a sophisticated, haute couture (1994). Cosmopolitan, on the other hand, has cover girls with a lot of cleavage (1994). Of course, Cosmo is
