graduates with and both work outside the home. Mother works as a manager at a local bank, father works as computer technician at a large technology firm. The family
moved to this area four years ago from another state. Mother was transferred with her employer. Other family members live nearby, in fact, Katie and brother go to an Aunts
home after school until one of the parents pick them up. This is usually between 5 and 5:30 in the evening. The family spends a great deal of time
together on weekends and after school. The family attends church each Sunday. The family usually does something special on Saturday evening, such as going out to dinner and/or the movies,
renting videos, or ordering in and playing games. Both children play soccer and are involved in other seasonal activities at school and in the community. The family is Caucasian and
natural English speakers. Katie is a pleasant girl who is very aware of her lack of reading skills. She does below grade level work in reading but not all
of language arts. Presenting symptoms included: skipping lines or words when reading aloud, being helped with a word but not knowing it when it appears on the next page
or even in the next paragraph, sometimes reading the same line twice, skipping over punctuations within paragraphs, having excellent listening and auditory skills but poor visual skills, impatience with making
corrections on writing assignments but creating excellent stories or written reports, spelling errors when writing but not when asked to spell a word aloud. The Student Study Team at the
