course, the concept has a human connotation. Birds are good. Trees are good. However, they are not virtuous. It is only human thought and action that seems to be associated
with virtue. An inquiry into ethics suggests that one should see virtue on its own terms, as well as a part of the whole (Howland, 2002). It must also
be looked at as it affects shared, political life (2002). It is something that would be a moral but is also an intellectual error to think of virtue only in
certain terms (2002). Aristotle claims that "there is no moral virtue in the absence of practical wisdom" (2002, p.27). Aristotle has viewed virtue as something similar to
how other theorists have, even though many have suggested that there is a difference in terms of ideology. On the contrary, Aristotle may have had more criterion, added something to
the mix, and treated virtue as something important, but he did not make it out to be something other than what the consensus has become. Virtue as a concept is
rather ambiguous anyway. Zeno, for example, saw virtue as equated with things like courage, wisdom, and justice (Foster, 2003). Again, Aristotle spoke of virtue as something equated with wisdom.
Yet he also "spoke more expansively of justice, courage, temperance, magnificence, magnanimity, liberality, gentleness, prudence, and wisdom, in that order" (2003, p.30). While Aristotles take may be more defined and
refined, when all is said and done, it does seem that his take on the matter is similar to that of many other philosophers. This is also true when comparing
his ideas to that of Confucius. In Chapter 13 of Book One, and in Chapter 1 of Book Two, of Nicomachean Ethics, Aristotle (350 BC) speaks of virtue. He sees
