a holding company. The company was founded by entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson in 1970. He began with a magazine he wanted to publish, then he and a friend opened a
mail order music business. Today, Virgin Group has more than 300 branded companies that extend over 30 countries and employ more than 50,000 people (Virgin 2010). It is also a
private company, which means the group itself is not required to submit reports to the public or any regulatory agency. Its individual companies are a different story, many of them
are listed on trade exchanges and must submit various reports. Virgin did report that revenues for branded companies and products has total revenues in excess of US$18 billion in 2009
(Virgin 2010). Virgin Airlines is the largest revenue-producer. It has a fleet of 40 aircraft and flies to 30 destinations (Hoovers 2010). It has a complementary airline named Virgin Blue
in Australia which has a fleet of 80 aircraft (Hoovers, 2010). This business is involved in all aspects of the travel business. Sir Branson himself is a transformational leader. He
