of violence. There seems to be no middle ground and as such the main stream video games are often filled with sex and violence. This brings into play the governments
role in regulating, or not regulating, such video games. The following paper examines three arguments in favor of government intervention and three arguments against the governments intervention. Government
Intervention The first argument regarding government intervention is the regulation of how the videos are categorized and labeled. The government, in this case, should fully spell out the violence and
sex that is contained within each video. This, however, is already done for the most part, with or without the governments regulation. Many video game companies do not wish to
be taken to court by parents and so put such warnings on the cases, with or without the governments insistence. As one author indicates, "Most video games nowadays contain an
ESRB [Entertainment Software Rating Board] rating on the box that most parents find helpful when buying games. There is however no regulation that a game must contain an ESRB rating,
but it is highly encouraged" (Farrales, 2004). This argument is that there should be regulations insisting that such labels always exist. Another argument involves complete censorship of such video
games. However, our Constitution will not allow for such a regulation. There are those, however, who would like to see all such games banished and illegal, just as they would
prefer to see many books and magazines banned in the United States. Such censorship, however, is not allowed in this nation. The last argument is that which involves banning
