victims of violence, and men are the heroes, at least as far as the media is concerned. This offers us a very intriguing position in our society where we find
that we need women heroes, women who are not afraid of the violence and do not necessarily rely on men to get them out of situations. We are lacking media
attention to women who face danger, consciously or subconsciously, and become heroes. In the following paper we examines some stories of women who are heroes, illustrating how rarely we hear
of them, and how there have been such heroines throughout time. Violence and Heroism One of the most obvious violent realities today is that which involves terrorism and
the attacks on the United States. Interestingly enough, it seems that there were no female fire fighters mentioned in the disaster. Perhaps there were none. We heard of a few
females who made it out of buildings, but heard of no women in the planes who perhaps participated in the counter attacks. Again, perhaps there were none. We should understand
that, realistically speaking, women are going to stay away from violent realities far more than men will. This is not a sexist statement, but a truth. Women are, by nature,
very different from men and thus do not aggressively involve themselves in violence the way men do. However, in the attacks, and the aftermath, we have seen many women
on the other side of the world stand up to the violence that confronts them every day. We have seen numerous stories on television of the women who were confined,
controlled, oppressed. These women were and are the victims of violence, but also the women who attempt to stand up to that violence. They are determined, from a young
