Most people do not even begin to stop and consider that the United States is deeply involved in human rights issues and violations within its own nation. The United States is quite guilty of many human rights violations on its homeland. The following paper offers up examples of human rights violations, arguing they exist far more than people think. Violations of Human Rights in the United States In one article, by Human Rights Watch [2] (2006), the author states that one of the biggest, and most common, human rights category of violations involves the criminal justice system which includes "police brutality, discriminatory racial disparities in incarceration, abusive conditions of confinement, and state-sponsored executions, even of juvenile offenders and the mentally handicapped." However, there are other violations that occur quite commonly as well. There are violations concerning the rights of workers, violations concerning the discrimination towards homosexuals in the military and also concerns of abuse as they relate to migrant farmworkers who are children (Human Rights Watch [2], 2006). In this brief look at some of the most obvious, and most prolific human rights violations in the United States it seems obvious that the reason they are not really noticed by the mainstream society is because the people of the nation do not really see a need to protect some of these people. It may well be argued that the majority are not concerned about the rights of homosexuals, much less the rights of those who are incarcerated by the justice system. And, in relationship to child labor concerning migrant workers, most Americans believe that the nation should not encourage illegal immigration in the nation and they associate farmworkers will illegal immigrants (despite the ...
