cold war, the opposite model of communism had been looked at as evil, and while communism is a model that has many supporters today, capitalism coupled with democracy is seen
as a combination that will save the world. It is thought to be perfection, at least in theory, whereas communism is thought of as quite the opposite by many
people. Yet, while few can find anything wrong with capitalism, some great thinkers did see many flaws which in fact is seemingly responsible to the difficulties in the world today.
Karl Marx, for example, saw capitalism as the ultimate destroyer as it created a wide disparity between rich and poor. Above all, it is simply not fair and could never
create a world where people are content. Rather, it served to pull people apart, pad the pockets of the rich and leave no opportunity for the poor. Emile Durkheim similarly
saw capitalism as a flawed model and his concept of anomie is similar to Marxs concerns about alienation. The well known psychiatrist Sigmund Freud who also lived during the
nineteenth century was concerned with the effects of modern society, which would of course include the capitalist system, on the freedom of man. He believed that capitalism is limiting in
terms of freedom of expression and so forth. Finally, Weber viewed capitalism as rather positive as it was supported by the Protestant Work Ethic and unlike Marxs notion that one
becomes disconnected as a result, Weber saw capitalism as life enhancing. While these thinkers each differ in respect to theoretical concepts, it is important to note that on some aspects,
