nature can affect work: Its a glimpse of the obvious to say that people see what they expect to see, but its true. Thats why people who are looking for
nastiness or unpleasant events will always find them, and why people who expect to have a good time will enjoy themselves. There is a school of thought that is gaining
currency that suggests we create our own reality; this is another name for the self-fulfilling prophesy. It simply means that if we expect something good or bad to happen, it
probably will-whether its good or bad. We cause it ourselves, or rather we create the circumstances in which the event will occur as we subconsciously expect it will. What this
means for the practice of social work is very simple. If social workers expect clients to be difficult, untrustworthy liars, they will appear to be just that. If they expect
the clients to be worthy people who need help, they will find people that they can help. The human mind is extremely powerful, and social workers should understand that how
they perceive the world will have a tremendous impact on their reality, and thus on their practice. Are humans good or bad? Many of the concepts in this paper belong
