The victims of crime, whether they be the person who, first handedly experienced the crime or family members whose loved one was the victim of a crime, are individuals who
are often used for ratings by the media, exploited without much consideration for their situation or their feelings. The following paper examines how the victims of crimes are often victims
of the media as well. Victims of Crimes There are many ways in which the victims of crimes are manipulated and exploited by the media and many consequences
to being exploited. Generally speaking a person who is a victim of a crime is in a very vulnerable position. As such they may unwittingly speak to the media for
a variety of reasons and the media could perhaps care less what those reasons are for they are only eager to get their story. A victim may speak to
the media because they are confronted and do not know how to get away, perhaps even thinking it is their duty to tell the story. They may speak to the
media to be heard, perhaps for a cause, or they may speak because they are hoping someone has information for them. Whatever the case the media will hound them for
stories, and information, without really caring what their situation is and this can leave a victim feeling very violated and distraught, especially when they see their lives plastered in every
magazine, newspaper, and news program. The consequences of such "plastering" could well be that neighbors and people from all over a community will bother them, remind them of their
situation, and ultimately strain their emotions during a very sensitive time. It can affect the children of families who are victims of crime, constantly reminding them of what took place
