when she visited briefly with her next-door neighbor, Alice Carter, before going back to her own apartment, saying she was tired. Carter is of similar age and also single and
the two women provide companionship for each other and are accustomed to checking on each other. Grahams son called her at 9 PM to discuss a family reunion scheduled for
the next weekend. These were the last people to see or talk to Graham who was found brutally murdered the next morning. The body was discovered by Carter when
she came over to offer Graham the morning newspaper. Graham did not subscribe to the paper, but would occasionally ask for Carters paper after she was through reading it.
When Graham failed to answer the door, she became concerned but returned to her apartment. When Graham failed to answer the phone an hour later, Carter checked and found Grahams
car still in the parking lot. As they were close friends, Carter has a key to Grahams apartment and vice versa. She let herself in and found Grahams body on
the living room floor. The victim was strangled but the murder weapon was not at the crime scene, so investigators speculate that her assailant took it with him. The murdered
is assumed to be male due to force indicated in the attack and the fact that appeared to be a sexual motivation as Grahams clothes were in disarray and she
was partially nude. The victim had no known enemies. Described as sweet, kind and "motherly," her children, a son, Arthur Graham, aged 25, and daughter, Alice Reynolds, aged
23, describe as being "Mom" to the whole neighborhood. Their families live close by and are accustomed to seeing each other often. There is no evidence that relations with either
