that women live in a patriarchy in which men collectively keep women down. FEMINISM: THE SEX/GENDER SYSTEM The sex/gender system in our society is composed of many thought
processes; the most prevalent of which is that this is still a male-dominated society. Feminist theorists are naturally going to consider this of the utmost importance because in this
day of equal rights for all, the sex/gender system is choking this freedom. The road to female freedom and self-expression has been paved with patriarchal intolerance and characteristic skepticism so
much so that women have been forced to prove their worthiness within the stringent boundaries of a male-dominated existence. This perpetual assertion speaks volumes about the inherent fortitude that
comprises the female spirit. Certain scripture regularly challenged women to disprove that they were inferior-to not agree was heresy. When religion did not work alone, scientific theory was included
as a factor in the equation that supported the ideal that women are inferior. Based upon a conviction of inferiority, male authorities were then able to design lifestyles for
women, including approved activities, mannerism, education, sexuality and religious pursuits, as well as the extent to which there was to be economic and political involvement. Among the many differences between
men and women is the manner in which they speak. The variations that exist within gender language are sometimes quite conspicuous, while at other times remain quite subtle; however,
