simple, straightforward prose that echoes what she is saying about those people. What My Heart Wants to Tell was originally published in
1979 and then re-released in 1987. In interviews and other background information she always makes it clear that she wrote the book in order to clear up the many misconceptions
and half-truths that have been written about the Kentucky mountain people. She also explains that she wanted subsequent generations to understand something about a life now gone. A Remarkable Family
