dwindling patronage signaled a change in the

always experimenting with new styles. These styles often had the most tenuous links with what had gone before. The styles do not "integrate" with each other. No paintings seem to
exist which show the link of one style to another.. Instead, the styles of the paintings abruptly change. This is different from a painter like Mondrian, for instance: after Mondrian
discovered cubism in 1912, his entire career shows a continuous expansion of that theme. Malevich was vastly more eclectic. His work does not always seem to be the
product of an internal compulsion, but more like a conscious response to an external stimulus. However, Malevichs paintings show considerable powers of invention, as well. They might not always be
deeply personal, but they are the product of a lively mind (http://members .aol.com/mg4273/malevich.htm). One of these visual experiments included the use of words and letters, as can be seen
in the 1914 oil on canvas, Englishman in Moscow. 34 5/8 x 22 1/2 in.(88 x 57 cm.) Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam... Malevichs "An Englishman in Moscow" like
Cubisms collage technique juxtaposed a variety of forms along with portions of lettering. Yet there appears to be no sense of obvious logic in this painting.
