Nevertheless, he is considered to be "Spains greatest painter" and also "one of the supreme artists of all time" (Pioch). His painting Los Borrachos (oil on canvas, 165 x 225
cm) attests to the power of Velazquezs artistic imagination. Central to the composition is the figure of the Greek god Bacchus, as the men pictured are obviously drinking and
appear to be celebratory mood. Also, the title, in English, translates literally as "The Drunkards." The figure of the Bacchus immediately draws the eye, as his white body catches the
light. His robe is draped across his lap, but his chest is bare and he seems to glow like alabaster, especially as his whiteness is contrasted against the earthier colors
of the men around him. The red of one of Bacchus robes is the brightest color in the entire tableaux. Bacchus wears a laurel and is also placing a laurel
on the head of a youth kneeling in front of him. The two figures on the left also wear laurels of what appear to be grape-leaves and the one
behind Bacchus is also semi-nude. The other man wearing a laurel of grape leaves is sitting on the ground in front of Bachus, in shadow, with his face turned toward
the figure of the mythological god. Bacchus is looking away from the young man in front of him, his eyes shifted to the side, with a quizzical look on his
face, as if in response to something the man behind him as said. On the other side of Bacchus, on the right hand side of the painting, there are
five more figures. A man in the back is standing and tipping his hat to the man sitting below him who appears to be talking to him. The other three
