Indeed, even the definition of "expert" differs significantly according to who is providing the definition. The knowledge developer must recognize that while certain fields can be approached from a strictly scientific and mathematical perspective, other fields are more esoteric in their nature. When we are considering one of the more esoteric arenas of knowledge, however, such demonstrative proof is not always readily available. It is also important for the knowledge developer to recognize that even in scientific and mathematical fields many factors can impact not only a particular "experts" command of that field but also our perception of that knowledge. The social and cognitive dimensions of scientific knowledge has, in fact, fascinated some of the greatest minds on earth.
