Essay / Research Paper Abstract
This 4 page paper uses a article examining the influences on obesity to look at the way variables are used, identifying the dependant and independent variables and looking at the way the variables are clustered together. The paper also presents a conceptual map of the different variables. The bibliography cites 4 sources.

and then the factors were studied further in a cross sectional study with another 5,673 Finns. There were a number of variables in this study. The dependant variable; that is
the variable which is impacted by the other finances is that of the level of weight gain or loss. The factors which influence this are the independent variables (Upton and
Cook, 1997), which include physical activity levels; education, general health and the presence of any chromic diseases, the consumption of alcohol, smoking, marriage and even genetic predisposition were all studied
as potential influences. . The article looked at the different influences and considers them by type as well as bringing them together with the attention paid to the influences
on obesity and how weight is gained or lost by those who are over weight. The main influence is seen as the energy balance between consuming and expending energy, where
more energy was consumed than used there would be weight gain, where more was used than consumed there would be weight loss.
Overall, energy expenditure tends to represent between 20% and 50% of the total energy expenditure of any individual. Research has indicated that those who have a body mass index of
below 35 m-2 tend to have similar activity patterns when the energy expenditure levels are corrected to the different body sizes, this is supported by other research which has the
same findings (Prentice et al, 1996). Therefore the first grouping looks at the influence of energy expenditure. It was found that proactive
physical exercise tends to increase the level of energy expended and will help an individual lose weight. The longitudinal study to that took place in Finland demonstrated that obese individuals
