well as the well known song Vincent or Starry, Starry Night by Don McLean" (Van Gogh Gallery). The following paper examines the painting, and then examines the painting after reading
a poem by Anne Sexton titled "The Starry Night." Starry Night Interestingly enough, "While theres no denying the popularity of Starry Night...there is very little known about Vincents
own feelings toward his work" (Van Gogh Gallery). He did mention it a few times in letters, but for the most part we know nothing of what this painting meant
to him. As such we, as the viewer, are left to our own devices to truly understand the painting. The Van Gogh Gallery illustrates how one can wonder, "Does the
tumultuous style of these works reflect a tortured mind? Or is there something more we can read within the whorls Vincents raging night sky?" These are the questions and perceptions
that make "Starry Night not only Vincents most famous work, but also one of its most frequently interpreted in terms of its meaning and importance" (Van Gogh Gallery). When
viewing this painting this particular writer feels and thinks many things. There is a powerful boldness to the strokes, which are solid and quite obvious, that give the impression of
power and an understanding of the immense nature of the universe. There is no subtly, so to speak, in this particular painting, yet it remains very vague for it is
truly a painting that can be interpreted in many different ways. The use of bold colors also makes a very intense statement as the colors remain vibrant and almost explosive
