used in monasteries across Europe. St. Gregory the Great praised Benedicts book as being a clear guide for monks. That may be because Benedict wrote the book in everyday Latin
rather than scholarly Latin.1 While it does act as a type of legal code for living in a monastery, it also incorporates a great deal of spiritual wisdom about the
monastic movement.2 It is comprised of a Prologue and 73 chapters, which teach about the virtues of humility, silence and obedience. The book also includes directives for day-to-day life in
the monastery. For example, it suggests times for common prayer, reflection and work. It also offers directives related to common living such as sleeping arrangements, food, drink, caring for the
sick and clothing among other topics. Benedict learned by referring to other writings, such as the Rule of the Master and also by experience. He did not do well
as an abbot of his first monastery, the monks tried to poison him.3 The three virtues as mentioned are humility, silence and obedience. The Rule also includes a number of
values related to the virtues. These include hospitality, perseverance, kindness, especially kindness towards those who have special needs, discipline, and optimism that salvation is found in the simple and
routine tasks we do every day. Suetonius lived in the late first and early second centuries. His father was wealthy and belonged to the equestrian order which, in terms
of rank, came after the senators. Suetonius was educated in Rome as an orator where he met Pliny the Younger who would have great influence on Suetonius.4 Suetonius was personal
secretary to the emperor Hadrian. He held positions of power and influence during that reign. He also wrote a number of documents and books. He is best known for The
