play. "Miss Julie" by August Strindberg, is a play that was intended, or so it would seem, for a very limited stage. This is perhaps due to the naturalist beliefs
of Strindberg. In that he believed that much of any production relied on the simplest and more defined elements. But, if we suppose that we had the opportunity to have
an extensive stage, to some degree, a stage that offered perspectives into different rooms other than the primary room, we may be able to strengthen the story, put a slightly
different twist on its reception, on the part of the audiences, and still succeed in offering the story of "Miss Julie." In the following paper we address the ideals of
Strindberg, as illustrated in his play and his preface, and discuss how one could incorporate a larger stage into this play and still maintain its naturalist intent. Miss
Julie and Naturalism on Stage In the preface to the play Strindberg makes a great deal of notations in regards to how this play should be envisioned. One of the
most striking comments he makes is that which relates to women in general, a statement that many argue does not expose itself in the play. The statement is in regards
to women, and their place in the world: "She (Miss Julie) is the victim of false belief - namely that woman - this stunted form of human being compared to
man, the lord of creation, the creator the civilisation - is equal to man or might become so" (Strindberg Preface p. NA). Now, while this does not illustrate anything
regarding stage or the utilization of space, it is a very important aspect of the playwright that should be noted, for it addresses a very rigid and very narrow view,
