scores added together; it is the score itself that will then be used for the employer to assess the job so it can be placed in a relevant category. The
actual system that creates the scores allocated is complex; however, by understanding the system it is possible for the employee to leverage this in their own interests. If categories
are used to assess the importance of each job to the employer and level of total remuneration the employee may be able to benefit from influencing the way in which
a job is assessed. The Hay System will start by creating a job description; this will usually start with the use of job description questionnaire which is completed by the
employee. The questionnaire has the aim of collecting the information which is needed to define the skills, knowledge and competences that are needed to fulfil the job (NPIA, 2010). These
questionnaires will usually be given to all employees within the different job categorises; this gives an overview of the job. There may be a meeting between the assessors and the
employee to clarify the results of the questionnaire (NPIA, 2010). The results for the different employees within the same job are then compared and any differences are resolved. To
use the system in favour of the employee there are two dimensions; the way that the questions are answered and the need for a general level of agreement between the
