and other conditions grow more and more resistant to antibiotics, doctors and other professionals are looking, more and more, towards the use of placebos when the condition is not life
threatening. In the following paper we discuss one antibiotic in particular, Vancomycin, examining research dealing with the antibiotic. The paper then examines the same as it relates to placebos. The
paper follows with a brief proposal of conducting a research using placebos and Vancomycin as a treatment for antibiotic resistance in 2 hospitals in one city. Research on
Vancomycin "Throughout the last century, humanity fought hard against bacterial infections, and bacteria themselves retaliated by developing resistance to our antibiotics. Vancomycin has been a key player in this war
against bacterial pathogens; it has been so important, in fact, that it is often known as the antibiotic of last resort" (Introduction to Vancomycin: a history, 2002). That is because
this is a drug that is used to kill bacteria when there is no other drug which will work. "But now, forty years after the drug was introduced into the
clinic, the medical community is facing an incipient crisis in the use of Vancomycin. More and more bacteria are gaining resistance to a drug that is often still seen
as the last hope when trying to cure a bacterial disease" (Introduction to Vancomycin: a history, 2002). Like most antibiotics, which includes penicillins, "Vancomycin acts by interfering with the
construction of cell walls in bacteria. Cell wall biosynthesis is one of the major means of killing bacteria" (Introduction to Vancomycin: a history, 2002). However, this particular type of attacking
is proving futile in many cases. "Once an antibiotic has been introduced into hospitals, it can be as little as a few months before resistant strains of bacteria appear. The
