a rich picture tool facilitates the inclusion of the less tangible aspects of analysis and solution design by taking a broad stakeholder approach and incorporating many viewpoints as input into
the problem-solving process (Monk and Howard, 1998). The origins of rich pictures can be found in Soft Systems Methodology (SSM), which is a problem solving model that
sharp contrast to the harder methods based on logical assumptions. Within soft systems methodology, and rich pictures, many stakeholders who would traditionally take a passive role in the assessment, become
more proactive with their views purposely sought as input into the analysis and decision-making process. In order to consider the way in which rich pictures operates an example may be
utilised. Within and operations management environment there are many potential problems which may be faced. Problem that may be present in many manufacturing companies may be a lack of efficiency
within the firm as a whole and falling productivity or sales levels1. In this example we will utilise a car manufacturer, and create a rich picture in a manner of
