any sort associated with the workplace. Unfortunately, the world is not an ideal place and neither is the office. Problems there can range from everything to pilfering paper clips to
murder. This paper considers the way in which a security manager might use crime pattern analysis to prevent one type of workplace offense. The terms of the essay carry some
assumptions with them. First, in todays market "security manager" is probably more likely to refer to someone who safeguards data, rather than someone who safeguards the physical plant. Thus, we
will assume that this individual is an IT expert, and his or her concern is with keeping sensitive and proprietary information out of the hands of competitors. Second, we are
looking at only one type of offense, and to do that well need to find a source that lists what types of offenses are most common in the workplace. Third,
once we have found that, well have to pick one; in this scenario, stealing pens is unlikely to give us the depth of information we need. It is more likely
that we want to look at people who sell industrial secrets to competitors, snoop through the Human Resources records for medical information, or do something similar. We are coming at
the question backwards, finding a list of offenses and then choosing one that fits the rest of the question. However, there seems to be no other practical way to approach
it. Research reveals, however, doesnt bear that assumption out. Instead, it has revealed that putting in search terms like "workplace violence," "workplace crime" and even "workplace crime and security" come
