bottom-line quality typically does not. Porter and Teisberg (2004) attribute this to several skewed views of competition in health care. All players focus on reducing costs, which is
the wrong objective. The objective should be to improve quality and to find better delivery methods than currently exist, each of which will contribute to reducing total costs.
The most efficient and most accurate route to achieving these ends is effective, useful information. We live in the "information age," but all
too often the information available is not directly useful for long-term use, improving quality or establishing effective strategy. Szatala (2000) describes a common-sense approach to compiling and using the
