tomorrow is something to be aggressively focused on if we are to enter into this new era of international relations and fast paced technology. We can not rely on the
education approaches of the past. This goes for all areas of education, urban or rural. In the following paper we present an illustration of some of the most important aspects
of education and teaching in urban areas. The topics discussed are areas of education that are rapidly needing more aggressive attention and proper address. The topics presented are the challenges
that the urban teacher faces today and tomorrow. Multicultural One of the most important aspects in the education system today, and most especially in urban areas where populations
are high, is that which involves multicultural individuals. Jackson and Velox (1998) state that "Significant numbers of culturally diverse children and youth now experience school failure in schools across the
United States. To counter this unfortunate and inequitable circumstance, many teacher educators and policymakers now advocate for multicultural curricula in teacher education and special education programs" (p. NA). We understand
that the minority and cultural populations are growing by great leaps and bounds in this country. This presents a truly specific challenge for the urban teacher. In the following we
see one aspect of this concern: "The need to prepare more educators to teach in culturally diverse classrooms is a critical issue in education today. We can draw that conclusion
based on two phenomena seen recently in American schools. One is the rapid increase in the number of children of color, especially African American and Hispanic AmeriCan children, in public
