great deal of transition is Pittsburgh. It seems that in this city, urban redevelopment was the areas primary tool and is something that helped the city to combat things
such as decay, flooding and pollution (Fitzpatrick, 2000). As a result of programs, the city did relocate businesses and built more buildings and demolished old ones (Fitzpatrick, 2000). The city
had undergone a transformation of sorts during the middle of the twentieth century, and it gained some attention from the press which positively influenced the public (Fitzpatrick, 2000). The
city was doing well, but it seemingly had not taken things far enough. The city would not tear down businesses or homes in the Lower Hill District for example (Fitzpatrick,
2000). Strip malls replaced some buildings and many saw this as detrimental (Fitzpatrick, 2000). Certainly, urban renewal occurred, but it was only a partial endeavor. In respect to the Hill,
redevelopment would come to an end during the 1960s (Fitzpatrick, 2000). At the same time, the East Liberty section of Pittsburgh got needed apartments (Fitzpatrick, 2000). Economically, it is
noted that while there were shopping centers instituted, they could not compete with suburban malls that would begin to spring up (Fitzpatrick, 2000). The article suggests that urban renewal has
made a difference, but it is not a panacea. There are many things to be done. The effort really was not very effective overall. In discussing these
