to link data to a location with the use of geographic coordinates or other coordinates defined by the user (McGarigle, 2002). It is something that is able to configure trends
and provide maps to represent classes or groups of information (McGarigle, 2002). When utilizing GIS, the information gleaned may have to do with a variety of things aligned with
urban planning such as crime, wetlands and demographics (McGarigle, 2002). Data may be integrated with a variety of tools and images created (McGarigle, 2002). When evaluating areas for safety
for example, the information can be utilized to schedule police coverage and environmental concerns may be addressed in noting various locations and their particular attributes. Communities can then take appropriate
actions as each need is brought to the residents attention. In recent years, GIS has been a tool utilized for building structures as well as for the development of cities
