There are other patterns which are more a matter of custom and attraction which are seen as an unwritten rule (Haralambos and Holborn, 2004). If we consider a social situation
such as a formal dinner party there are unwritten rules that should be followed these are the aspects of general behaviour and interaction that are assumed to be in place
by most participants (McCabe and Brannon, 2004). These unwritten rules are not formalised, they are understood as a form of social contract in many cases and their breach will
be meat with surprise and maybe shock (Bilton et al, 2000). Most of the unwritten rules when considering the dinner party may be seen as those concerning fitting in (Grandin
and Barron, 2005). The rules may concern different issues. If we look at unwritten rules, when it comes to informal parties and gathering there are unwritten rules that it
is fine to be late, even fashionable. The same is not true of formalised dinner parties, however it is also perceived as inconsideration to be early, this is when the
hostess will be preparing and getting ready herself, unless the guest is very a close and has been asked to attend early for example, to help with the preparations, then
early attendance is frowned upon. The reason for this may be the way it will make the hostess feel, if the is not ready when answering the door to her
